Dear Families,
Our third grade classroom is looking to do something special for the men and women serving in our military this holiday season. We have decided to start a small independent care package that our classes will send to a troop stationed in Iraq or elsewhere overseas. We realize there are many different opinions and beliefs about the war in Iraq. We are in no way supporting the war or protesting the war. We just felt it was the right thing to do to show support for the men and women who risk their lives every day to protect the rights and freedoms that we have in this great country.
We would greatly appreciate any help you could give with this project. If you would like to contribute to our class care package, we have attached a list of suggested items to this letter. We would like to have all the items collected by December 11th so we can send out our care package by December 15th. A donation of $5 would also help with our shipping expenses. Any extra money we may collect for shipping we could use to purchase calling cards for the soldiers.
We will hopefully be sending out holiday cards from other classes. If you or other family members would like to make a card for the soldiers, I’m sure it would be appreciated.
Thank you for your help with our holiday project,
Mr. Wesche’s Third Grade Class
Mr. Nowak’s Third Grade Class

Thank you all for coming out to the Parent Meeting and Open House on Thursday. It was nice meeting all of you. I look forward to working with your child this year and am excited to begin a new school year.
Beginning next week, we will start our LA curriculum and students will start their spelling lists. There are three lists on their “Spelling Lists”. On Mondays, we will take a pretest. Students who miss 0 – 2 words will study the “Challenge List” words for a test on Fridays. Students who miss 3 or more words will take the “Regular List” words. Everybody will always take the “High Frequency” words.
Remember, if you lose your spelling list that you can find it on our “Third Grade Web Resources” page from the Westwood Elementary Class Pages link and on the “Blogroll” on the right side of this blog.

Did you know that you can be a part of our classroom this year by joining our class wiki? It is hosted by PBWorks and is an awesome technology resourse we will be using this year. I will post homework assignments on our wiki as well as other resources that you may need to access at home. I will include spelling lists, science notes, social studies notes, curriculum information, and webpage links. Our wiki cn be found at http://weschewiki.pbworks.com/. It can also be found on the right under the Blogroll.
